Two Paspointers upped to eagle scout rank Lamey and Shaw get highest award at court of honor Scouts of the Singing River District held their final court of honor for 1981 last Thurs day at the International Bro therhood of Electrical Workers Hall on Market Street in Pas j cagoula Scouts of Troop 500 Gau tier sponsored by the IBEM were hosts John Fuller and Jake Hoed are troop leaders Highlight of the court of honor was the conferring of the Eagle Scout rank upon Donny Lamey of Troop 220 Moss Point and Ned Shaw of Troop 232 Pascagoula J W Steadman assistant district commissioner con ducted the ceremony which elevated the two Scouts to the hehest rank of scouting He challenged them to con tinue to live their Scout prom ise and laws and to help their fellow Scouts along the Fagle trail The John Lameys and the Osbon Shaws parents of the two Scouts were escorted by Eagle Scouts Phillip Scordino and Karl Wiesenburg to par ticipate in the presentation The two mothers pinned the Eagle badges on their sons and were presented bouquets of roses by Scouts of their sons troops The couri of honor partici pation

f nrruTj_iinnnrumnnrumr SdCtonfaU II WE SEE IT THIS WAY 1 a riiiinnannjLiijumjmju yr i Horn Island For people profit or for the birds Eighth in a series Who is opposed to the countys plan for developing Horn Island and what does the opposition offer as an alternative The Mississippi Wildlife Fed eration last September adopted a resolution opposing the Horn Is land plan and similar plans advo cated by Harrison County politic ians for developing Ship Island W V Robertson of Gulfport president of the federation told the Chronicle that the federations opposition is based on its belief that commercialization would des troy recreational facilities now open to the public on these islands Jackson County supervisor president A P Moran says that as far as Horn Island is concerned more not fewer people would be able to use the island for recrea tion Ample public areas would be available he says And who can get out there now he asks Only the few people who have big boats With the building of the causeway anybody with an automobile will be able to go to Horn Island and iiiiimiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiimiiiiiiiiiimiiiiiiiiiiiiiiimii use those recreational facilities The wildlife federation has an other objection however

We are for these things whatever helps most of us even at the expense of some of us cCUuaI WE SEE IT THIS WAY We are against these things whatever helps some of us at the expense of most of us A slim hope that a good reap portionment bill will come from a housesenate conference next week is held out by State Rep Karl Wiesenburg of Pascagoula A bill calling for establishment of a legislature of 100 representa tives and 51 senators was passed by the house Wednesday Con ferees from the house will negoti ate with this as a starting point It is possiblethough barelythat a true reapportionment might be worked out What will come forth however most probably will be just another rearrangement plan disguised as fair reapportionment The house bill passed Wednes day though is closer to a fair one than any other suggestion yet to come from the legislature Its 100 man house allows for one member from each of the states 82 coun ties with 18 other seats available for dividing among the most heav ily populated counties Fiftyone senators most probably is the opti mum number for the upper house Wiesenburg believes that

Hancock Voters Seek Reversal In High Court JACKSON UPIAn attorney for a group of Hancock County voters hias asked the Mississippi Supreme Court to overrule a Chancery Court decision and re turn the states first county voter redistricting case for trial Attorney Upton Sission of Gulf port appealed to the high court to reverse a ruling by Chancellor William Hews at Bay St Louis which sustained a general demur rer by the defense dismissing the case The suit filed last Feb 13 by Powell Glass Jr of Bay St Louis and a group of Hancock residents as a class action asked that the county election commission be en joined from holding a further elec I tion for supervisor until redistrict ing had been accomplished The court took the matter under advisement The suit complained that one of the countys five beats had been virtually annihilated by the federal governments purchase of land for the space vehicle test site center in Hancock and Pearl River coun ties It claimed that the county had not been redistricted in more than 100 years and said that efforts to __ I IP ASTORALL PURPOS K I BLEACH wow Baby Food Ss 6 r 49

Goulas Carver High host to 200 in vocational event District gathering is allday Friday More than 200 vocational trades students and their in structors were in Pascagoula Friday to attend the South western District Trades Con test at Carver High School James E Taylor Carver High instructor was host for the event attended by F O Woodard Jackson state teach er trainer with the state vo cational department Information tests were con ducted during the morning and a manipulative contest held in the afternoon Four students instructed by J M Brantley of Moss Point Magnolia High competed with 46 of their fellow students ob serving Three contestants and 32 onlooker representing 33rd Avenue High School in Gulf port where the instructor is Herschel J Smith Todd Memorial High School in Poplarville was represent ed by three contestants 36 student spectators and instruc tor Obydce Nunnery Four contestants were en tered from North Gulfport High School Also attending were six students and their teacher Jerome Nichols Instructor at Nichols High at Biloxi Fred Randall brought three students to observe Four students at Carver High competed and 39 other students attended Miss Carver High Gladis Robins addressed the visitors in welcome after
