Search Library of Congress

Open knowledge, easier to explore.

Explore Library of Congress maps and historical records by place, subject and date. Follow digitized resources and original rights statements at the source.

Our sources

An independent Indiciae discovery service using Library of Congress metadata. Not affiliated with the Library of Congress. Dates and places are source supplied; digitization does not establish permission to reuse an item.

How the index works

We import public metadata and organize it into searchable records. Keyword search matches titles, descriptions, authors, subjects, and places. When meaning search is enabled, it compares locally stored text embeddings. Related records are selected using shared metadata.

Abstracts and descriptions come from the original source. We do not present generated summaries as source text. Indexed record counts describe this site's imported collection, not the complete holdings of any source archive.

Corrections & attribution

Each record links to its original source. Check that source for the latest version, full documents, and reuse permissions. Metadata can be reimported when source records change.

Operated by Indiciae
