David Lawrence Attempt to Regulate the Press Former President Truman and Politics Are Blamed For AntiTrust Conviction of Kansas City Paper Regulation and control of the press despite the protec tion supposed to be afforded by the Bill of Rights in the Constitution has been brought one step nearer to consumma tion in America by the deci sion in the case of the Kansas City Star A Jury obedient to the highly prejudiced instruc tions of a Federal judge now has convicted that newspaper of violating antitrust laws There are some 180 cities in the United States where a single newspaper ownership exists and where conceivably a politically minded admin istration can do what the Truman regime did in an attempt to wreak vengeance on the Kansas City Star for its crusade against the Pen dergast machine of the Dem ocratic Party and its vote getting frauds in that area Harry Truman as Senator helped to bring about the appointment of the judge in the case over the objection of Mr Roosevelts Attorney Gen era Francis Biddle who questioned his fitness for the bench The Star by its vig orous crusade against the political henchmen of Mr Truman earned the

UosUaii But Not UN Legislature Can Decide State Reapportionmenf The men in the Legislature seem to be spending a lot of time talking and listening to talk memorializing Con gress on matters which are complete ly outside their jurisdiction and final ly politics as usual with tthe little petty squabbles and infighting the public has come to regard as the nature of the Mississippi Legislature Let us hope that if and when these gentlemen get down to work they will be consistent in their approach to the solution of the states many serious problems and it wont be another ses sion of saying Dont do as we do but do as we say do We refer specifically to their memorializing the United States Con gress to limit contributions to the United Nations and prohibit the U S from participating or buying any bonds that may be issued by the United Nations This action was said to be inspired by House Speaker Walter Sil lers and others It received a highly favorable vote in the House and over whelming approval in the Senate Tt is well and good that we stand for fair play in the United Nations and we agree

ZONE POSTAL LAW REPEAL OPPOSED BY EDITORS HOLD BREEZY BANQUET Press Association to Name Advisory Board to Act With Faculty of Journalism School The Montana State Tress association now meeting in Great Palls favors the retention of the zone second class post age law which the organization last year at Miles City went on record as opposing To that end a committee was named to draft resolutions to be for warded to the Montana delegation in congress urging theni to work and vote against the repeal of the law The sub ject was brought before the convention by F M Tenney business manager of the ïrent Falls Leader who stated his belief that the vast majority of the men who last year were opposed to the measure had changed their minds and were now in favor of retaining it on the statute books Mr Tenney moved the appointment of a committee to draft resolutions opposing the repeal of the zone law and it was warmly seconded by M L Hutchens editor of the Mis soulian Mr Hütchens declared that the law had been of distinct advantage to the newspapers of Montana and the west and to the local newspapers in
