i r We Must Print The News A Lying Newspaper Is No Good Continued From Pape One T testified that the then Sheriff Smith had told Holmes supervisors he did not intend that any Negroes will vote while he was sheriff I was un der oath to tell the truth And I did The men who disputed my testi mony were talking for quotation in the Holmes County Herald Those who denied Sheriff Smith made the statement at the time and place designated did not do so in court They were not under oath Thein state ment was made to a newspaper that has consistently agitated racial mat ters since it was founded four years ago a newspaper that has done everything it possibly can to destroy me personally and my newspaper This is simply because I have re fused to bow to the wouldbe political bosses of Holmes County or permit them and the Citizens Council pres sure groups through which they work to dictate the editorial and news poli cies of this newspaper T might add that I shall continue to resist their domination and print the truth about all matters of public importance so that the people
