JJoimeS Sountu HER M Volume 1No 49 LEXINGTON MISSISSIPPI Thursday December si Progress Late Start No Space Sorry Due to a late start on this weeks issue after the Christ mas holidays and the lack of space we were forced to leave out some of the news this week This news will appear in next weeks Herald GROUND BREAKING ceremonies for the newly formed Black Creek Charcoal Co was scheduled to take place on the site of the plant just west of Lexington Thursday to day at 10 am Lexington officials and civic leaders were on hand for the cere monies as were other dignitaries from Jack son and Herbert Hyman one of the owners Pictured above watching Mr Hyman look through the transent last week as the site was being laid off are William Cooksey who will be in charge of maintenance at the plant and C M Martin Plant supt in charge of production Good Paper Good Competitor FourCounty News Bows Out by Chester Marshall After more than five years of operation The Four County News of Pickens ceased pub lication this week with the Dec 30 issue In a front page editorial Publisher CurtfHs H Multen said

There is a photographing machine on a lower floor of Grand Central Station which is a marvel even in this day of mechanical miracles In appearance it resembles the body of a honsom cab You step inside sit insert a qarter in a slot and press a button In just one minute there is delivered to you automatically your photograph already framed For an other nickel a mailing envelope is also furnished The first days of spring have broght a new look to New York Side streets which had been piled high with snow are clean from warm showers Store windows have chang ed from their winter dressing to bright mildweather colors like the clothing of passing pedestrians Cen tral Park has taken on a verdant mantle set with diamondlike lakes And out in the suburbs residents have removed their overcoats too soon done too much raking on their vards have become overheated caught colds and now are taking the modern version of sulphur and mo lasses I recently had occasion to ride the Pere Marquette railrdftd from Grand Rapids Michigan to Chicago and I was much impressed by the dining car service This railroad is owned by the Chesapeake
