Indicates the railroad land grant and the coal and iron deposits in Alabama. Distances from Washington, D.C., to New Orleans, La. are shown below the title. Chartered in 1853 and 1854. Consolidated with the Wills Valley Railroad, forming the Alabama and Chattanooga Railroad.

A map of a part of the southern & western states showing the contemplated route of the New Orleans & Ohio Railroad and the Central Railroad of Illinois, also the route of the Mobile & Ohio Railroad representing the most central, direct and practicable route for a great national and commercial highway between the Gulf of Mexico and the Great Northern Lakes, and by various branches and intersections with other Railways connecting with all the principal cities of the United States

The map covers an area from Lake Michigan to the Mississippi delta, and from Columbus, Ohio, to Little Rock, Ark. It shows Ft. Massac and "Capitol City" in southern Illinois and northern Kentucky as sites selected by the U.S. for the "Western Armory," and the probable future site for the seat of government of the United States or Western District of Columbia. Chartered January 9, 1852.

The adjoining area east of the Mississippi River shows only the rail network. The map indicates proposed, surveyed, located, and completed rail lines. Chartered in Arkansas in 1853 and in Missouri in 1854.

A Journey Through the South fA Paper read by Mra Tdomaa B Dinamore before the Unitarian Alliance Dec 2nd and published by request of The Journal The fame of the markets eating placesand the cooking of New Orleans is worldwide We enjoyed a dinner at Farbachers where soft shelled crabs are servedand unless you know just how to manage in eating them you have to be shown And not to have breakfast at Madam Johns where the best coffee in the world so they Bay is served the delicious French Dip would be to miss one of the unusual attractions When the itinerary for these trips is made not to be out but one night at a time in a sleeper is alw ys planned and to have our trunk at every stop is a great comfort The New Orleans ex perience was the only disappointment we had As we left New Orleans and were shown to our section we heard quite a commotion outside and oa looking out found it to be a bridal party There was much laughing and flowers were thrown and our good natured porter had all he could do to keep the crowd of young
