This is the Indiana portion of a projected railroad from Plymouth, Ind., on the Pittsburgh, Fort Wayne, and Chicago Railroad, to Bureau Junction, on the Chicago, Rock Island, and Pacific Railroad.

The Old Colony Railroad is double-tracked from Boston, south to South Braintree. The line was incorporated in 1844.

LC has a Rand McNally and Company map, measuring 35 x 45 cm., which uses the new name for the first time.
