rr i The Suffrage Resolve Passed by the Maine House 113 to 35 Augusta Me Feb 211917 Suffrage for the women of Maine on equal terms with men won the greatest victory in the history of the movement today when the House of Representatives of the 78th Maine Legislature voted 113 to 35 with only three members absent to submit the question to the people The vote m the House followed a lively debate which involved an exchange of personalities between Representative Bussabarger of Lubec a Democrat and leader of the Democratic faction in favor of the resolve and Representative Mur ray of Bangor Democratic floor leader and leader of the faction of the Demo cratic party opposed to the passage of 4he resolve Others who took part in the debate were Representative Percival P Baxter of Portland Republican Free man D Dearth of Dexier Republican Charles E Gurney of Portland Repub lican Seth L Snow of Mars Hill Re publican Theodore W Longley of Sidney Republican and Ralph 0 Brewster of Portland Republican in favor of the resolve and Representative Sherman L Berry of Waterville Democrat Edward W Larrabee of BathDemocrat John L Meserve of Naples Democratand Edgar E

North Waldo Pomona Grange North Waldo Pomona Grange was en tertained by Star of Progress Grange in Jackson Wednesday Sept 10th Although the sky was dark and the clouds threatening there was a goodly number present from the nearby granges and a pleasant and instructive meeting resulted Worthy Master O B Dow pre sided and the meeting was duly opened while Mr and Mrs F I Cronkhite satis factorily supplied the stations of Steward and Chaplain respectively Morning Light Sunrise Comet and Harvest Home Granges were represented besides the host grange During the business session a commu nication was read from the Lecturer of Waldo Pomona extending an invitation to tile members to meet with that Pomona at Frederick Ritchie Grange hall in Waldo Tuesday Sept 23rd The invitation was unanimously accepted At this time Mr and Mrs Sidney Tibbetts were introduced and received the instructions of the de gree of Pomona B WFarniiam of Comet Grange presided at the piano during the ceremony after which a delicious dinner was served by ladies of Star of Progress Grange and an enjoyable social hour fol lowed Grange was reassembled in the fifth de gree and the choir rendered a pleasing selection
