The Second Maine Regiment Left Augusta June 29th for Texas Regi mental Flag Presented by City Addresses by Mayor Viles and Hon Frank M Dut ton 15000 People 1 hrong the Streets to see the Start From the Kennebec Journal Through ianes of cheering people wav ine flags teardimmed eyes and flutter mg handkerchiefs the sections of the three long trains bearing our State of Maine soldier boys to Laredo Texas to serve their countrys flag pulled slowly from the Augusta station Thursday afternoon the first at 520 the second and third sections at intervals of 15 min UtBefore the noon hour hundreds of the 15000 people who thronged Water street and Market Square packed the windows of every block at the south of the street and dotted even the roofs and towers of surrounding buildings had begun to take their positions There was a tense un dercurrent of excitement in the whole spirit of the people who gathered to wish our boys God speed it was a different attitude than any crowd has ever mani fested in this city since the days of the SPinhou8oclocK the expectations of those who had for hours waited patient ly on the street
