u Sylvester Cottrell and Some ot His Descendants Sylvester Cottrell belonged to the Westerly R I family which is still rep resented in that town Buying land in Islesboro about 1772 he settled on what is now called Hewes Point having a tannery there it is said The Westerly records show that on June 7 1767 he was married to Peggy Margaret Pen dleton daughter of Thomas Pendleton of Stonington Conn and later of Isles boro Maine Sept 4 1789 Silvester Cotterell sold 100 acres of land in Isles boro to Stephin Pendleton the deed be ing witnessed by Gideon Pendleton and Sylvester Cottrell Jr also July 1 1790 Silvester Cottell sold 100 acres to Samuel Jackson for 73 pounds 10 shill ings The name is variously spelled having four different spellings in one deed These transfers were probably made about the time he removed to N B where he died atMiramichi it is be lieved According to the Bangor Hist and Gen magazine his tombstone re cords that Sylvester Cottrell died Mar 20 1830 aged 88 and his wife Margaret died Oct 20 1833 aged 84 So far it has been impossible to find the record of Sylvesters birth
