RECOGNITION DAY AT CHAUTAUQUA Correspondence of The Journal Chautauqua X Y Aug 21 Wed nesday morning August 16th about one hundred and seventyfive members of the large class of 1905 of the Chau tauqua Literary and Scientific Circle passed through the Golden Gate and received their diplomas in token of the completed course Recognition Day is the crowning event of the Chautauqua year the natural climax of the As sembly program and the goal toward which thousands of men and women in all parts of the globe strive zealously throughout the years The Cosmopo litan class well named because of the widely different communities represent ed in its membership and the broad in terest which its members have mani fested in all the work of the Circle re ceived formal recognition for the fidel ity with which its members have pur sued to completion the four years course of home reading prescribed by the Circle With the one hundred and seventyfive of this class who were present to go through the mystic portal were a large number of graduates of former years but who had never be fore been at Chautauqua on Recogni tion Day All over the world however
