Maine FolfcsAbroad A Word for the Belfast Club of Boston Maine Reunions in Brockton and Worces ter Mass To all Belfast People Abroad and at Home The reunion of the Belfast Club of Boston March 10th was a most delightful affair and while it is still fresh in our minds I wish through the medium of The Journal to catch the ears and hearts of some of our older Belfast people who have res ided in Boston and its suburbs for 25 years or more and no doubt have in some instances lost interest in the old home on the shores of the Penobscot As a general thing as we grow older our thoughts turn to the home of our youth and we become more or less ret rospective and live over the good times and happiness we enjoyed there We feel now that the club member ship is on a sound foundation that we can hold what we have but we want to see a generous increase before another year The older ones probably reason something like this there would be few if any that they know and that they are too old etc We are never too old

The First Maine Cavalry A Regiment With a Fighting Record The annual reunion of Co D First Maine Cavalry Veteran Association was overlooked at the time it was held in Ellsworth but it is worth recalling now in connection with the history of this famous regiment The only representa tive present for Waldo county was Abner K Gray of Prospect The meeting was held in Grand Army hail which was dec orated for the occasion with flags and cards bearing the names of 108 battles and engagements which Co D had the proud distinction of being in The First Maine Cavalry saw more fighting than any other cavalry regiment in the service The regiment was organized in the fall of 1861 It was a State regiment the com panies being appointed among the differ ent counties the larger counties being al lowed a company each while of the smaller counties two were allowed a com pany Company D was raised in Wash ington and Hancock counties The reg iment went into camp at Augusta where it spent the long severe winter of 18612 living in Sibley tents banked with snow and heated only by a little stove hung on a

Sweethearts Reunion Under Mistletoe Twig BETTY JANE dressed careful ly wondering if college had changed Bill much It was grand having him home for the hol idays The doorbell rang Christmas gift cried Bill hand ing her a gaylywrapped package and taking her in his arms Betty Jane drew back She wasnt sure she liked this Bill so wellhe seemed so sure of himself She re membered Bill as humble wooing for her favors Come say hello to the folks Betty Jane invited and see the tree and smell turkey They went hand in hand I sup pose youve met a lot of girls at col lege she hazarded Tell me about them Well theres just one Im really crazy about Bill answered All the fellows think shes swell Her pictures on my dresser and when ever Im in doubt I talk things over with her How grand said Betty Jane in a tight little voice They came to the mistletoe How different from last year when she was just learn ing to love him I have her picture on my watch too Bill went on his eyes twink ling brighter than the silver star atop the tree You used
