"Entered according to Act of Congress in the year 1881 by G.W. & C.B. Colton & Co. in the Office of the Librarian of Congress in Washington." Hand col. in red to show Southern Maryland R.R. and in blue to show connecting lines and shipping routes. LC copy imperfect: Fold-lined, rubber-stamped, annotated in pencil, missing sections at sheet corners. Includes text and statistical data. Partial cadastral map showing owners' names and acreages of larger landholdings in districts adjacent to the B&O R.R. in Washington D.C. and Montgomery County (Md.). "Entered according to act of Congress in the year 1890 by Francis R. Fava Jr. in the office of the Librarian of Congress, at Washington." North oriented towards the upper left. Includes notes, "Profile of the Metropolitan Branch B. & O.R.R. ... showing distances from Washington D.C. and elevations," and advertisement for "T. Janney Brown, general agent." LC copy stamped on verso--"Gilbert Thompson." Sectioned in 4 sheets and mounted on 2 sheets of cloth. Annotated in ink--"With the compliments of Francis R. Fava Jr. C.E., January 1892." Includes a list of distances for "Short Cut to Tide-Water..." Chartered March 1, 1853. Name changed in 1876 to the Potomac, Fredericksburg, and Piedmonth Railroad. See entry 541.

Plan of the Battle of Bristoe Station, Orange and Alexandria Railroad, Va., Octr. 14th 1863.

Shows the area of Fairfax County, Va., which was the site of the Battle of Bristoe Station. The map is oriented with Cedar Run to the south, Bristoe to the west and indicates the route of the Orange and Alexandria Railroad. Also indicated are A. P. Hill's Corps, Army of Northern Virginia, engaging the Union's II Corps during its withdrawal toward Centreville, Va.
