The Bossier Banner W H SCANLAND Editor and Proprietor BENTON LA Thursday November 5 1914 KILLING TIME No rightminded person hears without a certain shock the common expression to kill time It suggests a crime almost equal to those of which the law takes ac count Fur time is the stuff of life and to kill time is to kill life Who in his senses would ever think or talk of murdering his potential self In view of the varied and fascinating interests that may enter into a human ca reer it is strange indeed that anyone should consider time as something to be killed and gotten rid of There is surely use enough for every minute vouchsafed to us in this mortal career A person nor mally occupied finds each day too short for the opportunities presented The wiseman counts the precious moments of the day as a miser counts his golden coinsbut only to see how they may wisely be spent not selfishly hoarded We come into the world with a double endowmentwith work to do and with suitable time in which to do it There is time enough for the task but not too much If time

Matrimonial Aeneies in Paris Under an assumed name my friend went to the Paris residence of M deF the celebrated marriage broker and having paid the preliminary fee of 40 explained that he came on behalf of a cousin who although possessed of a handsome fortune and good title was anxious to increase his worldly goods by contracting a wealthy marriage My friend further asserted that he acted in his own name and without the authority of his cousin but that the consent of the latter should anything acceptable be proposed he could answer for M de F at first demurred and asserted that he was not in the habit of dealing with less than at least one person di rectly interested in a matrimonial pro ject but my friends eloquence not to speak of the thousandfranc note at length prevailed and the great matri monial agent unbosomed himself His terms were eight per centum on the dot and this to be paid within the first year after the celebration of the marriage Of course my friend con sented Then M de F explained that should nothing be definitely decided on and the attempt fail nofurther expenses would be incurred
