The adjoining area east of the Mississippi River shows only the rail network. The map indicates proposed, surveyed, located, and completed rail lines. Chartered in Arkansas in 1853 and in Missouri in 1854.

"Entered according to act of Congress, in the year 1870, by Joseph Mackey, in the Clerk's Office of the District Court of the Southern District of New York." Imperfect: Fold-lined, torn (halved) at fold line, annotated in ink in lower margin "Deposited June 15ʺ 1870, no. 877." The map covers an area from Lake Michigan to the Mississippi delta, and from Columbus, Ohio, to Little Rock, Ark. It shows Ft. Massac and "Capitol City" in southern Illinois and northern Kentucky as sites selected by the U.S. for the "Western Armory," and the probable future site for the seat of government of the United States or Western District of Columbia. Chartered January 9, 1852.
