Relief shown by hachures and spot heights. Appears in the U.S. War Dept.'s Report of the Secretary of War on the several Pacific railroad explorations, 1855. "This is a hurried compilation of all the authentic surveys and is designed to exhibit the relations of the different routes to each other. An elaborate map on scale of 1:3,000,000 is being compiled and is in an advanced state." In manuscript ink on verso: "Maps showing boundaries of proposed territory of Arizona belonging to the [illegible], Department of the Interior." Annotations in ink at lower center. This map, produced by the Transportation Department of the United States Department of Commerce in 1925, shows the railroad network of Trinidad. The main rail line in Trinidad was the Trinidad Government Railway, which originally was built in 1876 to connect the major city of Port of Spain with Arima. It later was extended to other inland towns. In addition to railroad lines and tramways, the map shows towns and counties and county boundaries. Originally claimed for Spain by Christopher Columbus in 1498, Trinidad was seized by Britain in 1797. With its much smaller sister island of Tobago, it became a single British colony in 1889. In the 19th century, the economy was dominated by agriculture, chiefly the production of sugarcane and cacao. Oil was discovered in 1857 and the petroleum industry developed from the 1860s onward. The colony of Trinidad and Tobago achieved independence in 1962.

Very detailed map of the United States west of the Mississippi River indicating drainage, relief by hachures, cities and towns, forts, trails, wagon roads, and routes of exploration. An important map of western expansion, it utilized and lists 45 major exploration and mapping reports from the Lewis & Clark to the U.S. General Land Office Surveys.
Covers the Isthmus of Panama from Panama City and Chorera on the Pacific Coast to Chagres and Portobelo Harbor on the Caribbean Coast. Also shows rivers, streams, settlements, an existing rail line, a proposed rail line to Panama City, a proposed canal, roads, a trail, coastline, coastal features, and anchorages. Title written in ink from verso. Pencil, pen-and-ink and wash. On verso at top in script and black ink: To: J.B. Feraud, esq. On verso in ink in bottom right corner: No.17 Coll. of Major DB Douglass, abt. 1838. Imperfect: Brittle, crack-lined, darkened, water-stained, holes throughout with minor losses, gold stitched along edges, and mounted on cloth.
