"Entered according to Act of Congress in the year 1881 by G.W. & C.B. Colton & Co. in the Office of the Librarian of Congress in Washington." Hand col. in red to show Southern Maryland R.R. and in blue to show connecting lines and shipping routes. [Manuscript map of Ohio and Kentucky showing planned turnpikes and existing roads, canals, and railroads]

vcFY24 Pen-and-ink and watercolor on paper. Mounted on cloth. Title supplied by cataloger. Shows a canal, roads, turnpikes (complete, under construction, and proposed), railroad, seats of government, and seats of justice in Southwest Ohio and Northern Kentucky. Date presumed to be between 1832-1835 based on the inclusion of a railroad between Frankfort and Lexington, Kentucky. Beneath legend: This plat, believed to be correctly extracted from the last edition of Hough & Bourne's map of the state of Ohio, and Munsel's map of the state of Kentucky, is respectfully forwarded to the Senators in Congress from Kentucky & Ohio by their obt. hble. sevt. Covers the Isthmus of Panama from Panama City and Chorera on the Pacific Coast to Chagres and Portobelo Harbor on the Caribbean Coast. Also shows rivers, streams, settlements, an existing rail line, a proposed rail line to Panama City, a proposed canal, roads, a trail, coastline, coastal features, and anchorages. Title written in ink from verso. Pencil, pen-and-ink and wash. On verso at top in script and black ink: To: J.B. Feraud, esq. On verso in ink in bottom right corner: No.17 Coll. of Major DB Douglass, abt. 1838. Imperfect: Brittle, crack-lined, darkened, water-stained, holes throughout with minor losses, gold stitched along edges, and mounted on cloth. Map of routes for a Pacific railroad

Relief shown by hachures and spot heights. Appears in the U.S. War Dept.'s Report of the Secretary of War on the several Pacific railroad explorations, 1855. "This is a hurried compilation of all the authentic surveys and is designed to exhibit the relations of the different routes to each other. An elaborate map on scale of 1:3,000,000 is being compiled and is in an advanced state." In manuscript ink on verso: "Maps showing boundaries of proposed territory of Arizona belonging to the [illegible], Department of the Interior." Annotations in ink at lower center. Accompanied by six manuscript sheets of an unidentified sketch map of a segment related to the railroad showing a large stream containing what appear to be soundings. Map is colored to show "free, or non-slaveholding states" (pink), "border slave states" (yellow), and "seceded or confederate states" (green). Description derived from published bibliography. New York and Erie Railroad diagram representing a plan of organization : exhibiting the division of academic duties and showing the number and class of employés engaged in each department : from the returns of September 1855

Company organizational diagrammatic map drawn in the form of a branching tree that identifies in its branches all of the functional offices of the railroad by name. Shows railroad trackage branches as straight lines radiating from the central office of the "Gen'l Sup't". The branches extend from New York (State) westward thru northern New Jersey and northern Pennsylvania to Lake Erie. "Published by permission." LC copy imperfect: Use-worn, brittle, fold-lined, torn, missing sections along the margins. LC copy annotated in ink handwriting in lower margin: 18[4?]. Deposited in Clerk's Office So. Dist. N.Y. "Entered according to act of Congress in the year 1890 by Francis R. Fava Jr. in the office of the Librarian of Congress, at Washington." North oriented towards the upper left. Includes notes, "Profile of the Metropolitan Branch B. & O.R.R. ... showing distances from Washington D.C. and elevations," and advertisement for "T. Janney Brown, general agent." LC copy stamped on verso--"Gilbert Thompson." Sectioned in 4 sheets and mounted on 2 sheets of cloth. Annotated in ink--"With the compliments of Francis R. Fava Jr. C.E., January 1892."
