m JEROME E WILLIAMS the northwest In the fall of 1889 he entered the law office of Congressman A J Campbell of Living ston who had just arrived from Reed City Michi gan One year later he engaged in newspaper work and for the next eight years his labors were spent al ternately between the law office of Mr Campbell and the offices of the Post Herald and Enterprise news papers In the fall of 1894 Mr Williams took up the study of shorthand alone and mastered the Ben Pitman system The following year was spent in newspaper reporting and in the winter of 1895 he entered the law office of Campbell Stark as their chief stenographer In July 1897 he was appointed court stenographer of the Sixth Judicial district J B F Hoover On the eve of August 24 1899 the city of Living ston was shocked by the intelligence that at 625 one of the most respected citizens had met his untimely death by the accidental discharge of a gun The sadness and regrets of his death grew more intense as everybody reflected on the loss of him as a citizen member of prominent fraternal societies efficient co
