SHELVING PRIVATELY OWNED AUTOMOBILES Only last week President Roosevelt stated that he probably would commandeer all tires on privately owned automobiles Tuesday Donald M Nelson voiced practical ly the same opinion and went into detail about the produc tion of synthetic rubber But there was no mention made of the millions of tons of scrap rubber that have been ga thered and are in the hands of the junk dealers of which no report has been made It seems to us that something is wrong with our whole rubber setup Spending of 20000 000 to put reclaiming plants in the various states would eliminate the shipment ot the waste material in scrap rubber and this ought to be ac comphshed as the synthetic rubber production which is certainly neglected W hether Nelson is not big enough for the job or he is trying to do too much himself is beside the point The rubber situation is being badly managed The commandeer of tires on privately owned automobiles would be killing the goose that is laying the golden egg Carbon County News O H P SHELLEY Editor and Owner Published every Friday at Red Lodge Carbon Co Montana Entered at the
