10 CITIZENS FORM ORDER LEAGUE IN SEATTLE SEATTLE Wash Aug 27 1N5 At an enthusiastic meet ing of Seattle citizens espousing the Law and Order League plans had been laid today for a campaign to enlist residents of this city of 400000 we believe in constitu tional government in a drive against the invisible government The league is an immediate out growth of the alleged breakdown of authority which accompanied the enforced suspension of the PostIntelligencer Seattles only morning newspaper 13 days ago by picketing It is a voluntary organization without dues and without any obligation on Its mem bers except the obligation of good citizenship C Kirk Hillman Seattle busi ness man was elected temporary chairman of the league and an exe cutive committee of six was named to guide the movement The mem bers of the committee were not announced HousetoHouse Canvass Plans were laid for a houseto house canvass to enlist at least 100000 citizens in the campaign to bring lawful authority back to the city The blockade of the PostIntel ligencer it was asserted was only the latest and most spectacular outbreak which has brought the entire city under the heel of a labor dictatorship At

Publishers Map Fight on Closed Guild Shop Editors Take Stand After Convention of Editorial Workers Claim Unions Resolutions on Spanish War and Court Bill Menace Freedom of Press By United Press CHICAGO American newspaper publishers are on record today as unalterably opposed to the closed Guild shop or any other form of closed shop for those who prepare and edit news and pictures for news papers A resolution to that effect was adopted unanimously late yesterday at a convention of newspaper pub lishers from all parts of the United States The publishers declared termination not to enter agreement with editorial upon a closed shop basis their de into any employes The convention which was called after the St Louis Guild convention adopted a bargaining code which in cluded mandatory rules calling for a closed or Guild shop in all contracts with newspapers was presided over by JamesG Stahlman president of the American Newspaper Publishers Asso ciation It was announced there were 565 delegates present from 11 newspaper organizations Text of the resolution follows The newspaper editors and pub lishers from all sections of the United States individually and thru their cooperative associations listed below are gathered here to take action
