Dixon Mrs A C Paul and daugh ters attended the wedding of her niece in Missoula Saturday Mr and Mrs Gene Pitts and family attended the Great Falls fair last week Mrs Tom Carter of Spokane Babe Ruths have B2 season In its final game of the sea son the Mission Babe Ruth team won over Dixon by a 133 score Tom Orr with a single and a double drove in three runs while Gary Blackman with a homerun drove in two runs The locals ended with an 82 record for the season New records were made by Gary Blackman in the R 81 department as he knocked in 21 to break a record that had stood since 1957 Gary also set a rec ord with three homeruns and by striking out 57 opponents knock ed the old record of 46 set by Merle Matt in 1955 by the way side Gary tied with Alvin Mc Lure for the record of hitting six doubles Steve Atkin swiped 17 bases to establish a new record in that department Missing from Next years team will be Gary Black man Gene Sorrell Raymond Cordier and Larry Bicha The final statistics are as fol

EDITOR OF MONTANAS OLDEST NEWSPAPER RECALLS BALMY PLACER DAYS OF DIAMOND CITY AND CONFEDERATE GULCH By DAN R CONWAY IN GREAT FALLS there resides a Krayhaired old Kontleman now well paat the fourscore mark who continuously for the past fifty years has been editor and publisher of the states oldest newspaper the first agricultural publication in the entire Rocky Mountain region and the only weekly farm paper published in the Northwest On November 25 1875 just 50 years ago R N Sutherlin printed the first copy of the Rocky Mountain Husbandman at the old mining camp of Diamond City M T This same R N Sutherlin has just issued his fiftieth anniversary number of that paper which is now being published in Great Falls A firm believer in the agricultural future of Montana Editor Sutherlin has from the beginning conducted his newspaper as a farm journal In the early gold days as is the common condition there were many disap pointments There were not a suffi cient number of claims to satisfy all and many took up claims which did not prove profitable As a result scores of those who had been lured to the foothills of Montana by the
