THIRTY NINE NEW LAWS WENT INTO EFFECT FRIDAY JULY FIRS Thirtynine of the 163 laws passed by the twentieth session of the Mon tana legislature went into effect July 1 Except for a provision requiring that personal property taxes on autoJ mobiles must be paid before a license is issued the 1927 budget now is in force The automobile law goes into effect December 1 when the 1928 li tenses are ready I As summarized by E C Toomey for the Corporation company of Hel en a the new statutes are i Chapter 1Increasing the monthly maintenance allowance for persons receiving state vocational training Chapter 4Fixing the order of ad mission at the Montana State Tuber culosis sanitarium for males and fe males according to available accom me da cions at the time of entry Chapter 5Limiting liability of coropration directors for failure to file statements as required to debts which may thereafter after failure to file be in any wise incurred until such report shall be made and filed Chapter 6Making Eastern Mon tana State Normal school at Bil lints and Northern Agricultural and Manual Training school at Fort As sinniboine component parts of the University of Montana Chapter

NASH ANNOUNCES NEW SPECIAL SIX SevenBearing Crankshaft Motor Heads List of Important New Features Heralded as introducing the worlds smoothest type of motor Nash has placed on display nationally the newly developed Special Six line comprising five models in open and closed body styles and powered by the new sevenbearing crankshaft motor termed by engineers the ulr tramodem type of six cylinder mo tor The debut of the new Special Six series has been awaited with extreme interest in veiw of earlier reports that Nash would achieve a significant achievement in motor engineering as well as a long list of important new betterments with no change in prices The first distinguishing attribute of this new motor is the superlative smoothness achieved by the use of the big seven bearing crankshaft in addition to great power and excep The motor is heavily insulated from the frame through the use of rubber insulation at the motor supports This practice intensifies the operative quietness and the almost vibration1 leas character of Nash performance There is also featured on these new motors a new crankcase breather an ingenious device which functions to prient crankcase dilution This breather also serves to keep the driving compartment

The Modest Beginning of the Press in Montana Territorial Press Association Organized in 1885 3E The Newspaper uAfi r By DAN R CONWAY T HE location of the town was in the upper valley of the Madison river at the head of Alder Gulch elevated on a sloping hillside and with a background that was rocky and sparsely wooded It had one lone street which was lined on either side by falsefronted and for the most part crudely constructed business houses It had many houses that were builded after as many dif ferent fashions the substantial of It ft more these being of logs or adobe In its day with a popu lation of a few thousand souls it was perhaps as lively and wicked a place as this coun try ever knew was the metropolis of Montana Territorythe seething center of the New EldoradoVirgin ia City If we compare this simple picture of the frontier with the present Mon tana its railroads its agriculture its industry and commerce its educa tional and recreational facilities its many cities of business palaces and beautiful homes we may realize what energy and enterprise have ac complished in the last sixty years It
