FERGUS COUNTY DEMOCRAT Subscriptionper Year2SO TOM STOUT Proprietor Published Weekly LEWISTOWN MONT November 28 PAST AND PRESENT About 23 years ago an awkward looking young chap started a news paper in the town of Maiden at that time in Meagher county He sent the paper to about every resident of this part of the state at any rate to every resident of Maiden and vicinity al though very few of them had sub scribed When some of them a year or two later mildly objected to pay ing for something they had not order ed the young man became very indig nant That young man of those days has become a rather patriarchal old gentleman with a very forgetful mem ory In those days with no opposition he spent many a tearful night and w r ailed his discouragement from one end of Maiden to the other and only the material assistance of numerous big hearted men of the camp prevent ed him from turning his face toward eastern relatives One lucky day for him he tossed a penny in the air to determine which his paper should be democratic or republican in politics and it landed tails up That
